What was the reason you started learning to trim?

I got my first horse, Amber, when I was 13, and met a barefoot trimmer, Jeff Eddy, at that time. He had studied with Lisa in Canada and was trimming many horses in the area where I lived. Always loving horses and wanting to learn more about anything related to them, I became very interested in trimming, so Jeff showed me the basics of how to keep Amber's toes short in between trims. From that point on, things progressed over the years to where I was attending clinics, traveling around shadowing/learning, and then eventually working with Jeff to trim horses in my high school years, summers home from college, and now after college. I have always had a passion for horses: working with and caring for them - but it really all seemed to start and become a reality with Amber and trimming her!

How many horses do you trim per month on average?

I trim more than 50 horses a month.  I have openings for more horses and would gladly talk with you about new horses.

What is your Equinextion Connection?

I learned about Equinextion through Jeff Eddy and his experience with the course. I had heard great things about it for many years working with Jeff and had the field-guide book to refer to, but didn't travel up to Canada to complete the Equinextion coursework until the summer of 2023. I had spent significant time on the road in NY seeing all sorts of different hooves and horses from many backgrounds that we barefoot trimmed. It only made sense to finally attend the course actually in Canada after so many years!

What is your favourite thing about trimming?

Seeing horses of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds benefit from barefoot trimming. Especially seeing the results from harder cases, or horses with issues, whose hooves have gone through significant transformation. One may start out with significant problems, but they are able to come out healthier on the other side after regular trims and a healthy lifestyle.

If you could give horse owners one piece of advice what would that be?

Keep it simple: let horses be horses. I think it's important to keep in mind how equines were designed to live and function when it comes to every aspect of their lifestyle.
